Save the date: Sharing experiences of the BIODEV2030 project

Mainstreaming and implementation of
the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework:
Sharing experiences of the BIODEV2030 project

wednesday 22 march – 10AM to 1PM (UTC +1)
at AFD, Paris (France)

Through the Kunming-Montreal agreement, the 196 member countries of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) have set themselves the task of “halting and reversing the decline of biodiversity by 2030”. To achieve this goal, governments will need to address the key issue of mainstreaming biodiversity into the most impactful economic sectors.

Implemented by IUCN and WWF France, coordinated by Expertise France and funded by the French Development Agency (AFD), the BIODEV2030 project has been piloting a mainstreaming method based on science and multi-stakeholder dialogue since late 2019. The 16 pilot countries used multi-stakeholder dialogue platforms to incite private sector stakeholders to change their practices.

What are the main advantages of the BIODEV2030 method for getting stakeholders to commit to biodiversity? What lessons can be drawn and shared so that others can adopt and replicate it? How can this experience contribute to the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework?

After three years of implementation, the partners of the BIODEV2030 project will provide answers to these questions during an event rich in testimonies, learnings and round tables with actors in the field who have experimented with this approach.

Programme

9:30 am : Reception of participants

10:00 am – Opening: Stéphane Pailler, Deputy Director of Environment and Climate – French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) & Gilles KLEITZ, Executive Director of Sustainable Development Solutions (AFD)

10:30 am – Key lessons for replicating the BIODEV2030 mainstreaming method – Feedback from 3 years of implementation in 16 countries

How to effectively identify and rank the main threats to biodiversity? What are the levers to facilitate the appropriation of the assessment results by the stakeholders? How to set up and run multi-stakeholder dialogue platforms that effectively mobilise stakeholders? The project partners will endeavour to answer these questions, through the testimony of stakeholders from BIODEV2030 countries, and the discussion of key lessons.

BIODEV2030 has set the objective of achieving sectoral voluntary commitments. In view of this initial ambition, what are the results of the project? What difficulties were encountered? What points of strength have been identified? How can we build on this experience to go further? After three years of project, the partners are drawing lessons to support the implementation of the global biodiversity framework on the issue of mainstreaming.
