UNOC3: perspectives on better integration of marine biodiversity into public fisheries policies and production practices

BIODEV2030

Implemented by IUCN and WWF France, coordinated by Expertise France, and funded by AFD, the BIODEV2030 project is an experimental approach to the sectoral integration of biodiversity being implemented in 15 pilot countries with diverse socioeconomic, environmental, and geographic contexts. Through a process centered on multi-stakeholder dialogue and grounded in science, the project aims to contribute to the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) in these countries by promoting the adoption of productive practices that reconcile biodiversity and development.

The BIODEV2030 method

BIODEV2030 initiated a multi-stakeholder dialogue based on a scientific diagnosis, which led to the identification of two to three priority sectors and/or industries for biodiversity and the country's economic development. The dialogueestablished thanks to the multi-stakeholder platforms supported by BIODEV2030 has fostered the emergence of a shared national vision for transforming production practices in favor of biodiversity.

Voluntary sector-specific commitments were proposed and discussed at the national level with private-sector and institutional stakeholders. Reforms were identified and championed at the sectoral ministry level, and regional pilot projects were developed in collaboration with local stakeholders.

DIAGNOSTIC

Establish a scientific assessment of the threats to biodiversity at national level and analyze the potential for impact reduction and ecosystem restoration in order to identify priorities for action.
